As a Sunday footballer my career was summed up by a friend in four words: “Could have been quicker.”
As a journalist, I’ve enjoyed more success. I’ve held executive positions on popular and serious newspapers. I’ve written (mostly about football) for the Sun, the Sunday Times, the Daily Mirror, the Daily Telegraph and the (London) Evening Standard and, since December 2003, I have been the football correspondent of the Daily Express
My work has been quoted in Parliament, inspired the name of a fanzine and been reprinted on T-shirts. I have contributed to four anthologies of sports writing, collaborated with referee Graham Poll on his autobiography and had an adult literacy football book published. I am chair of one football charity’s funding panel and vice chair of another.
This immodest website is just a place where you can contact me, look up my CV or find examples of my writing.
